About Us

Gastroenterology Fellowship Program

The San Antonio Uniformed Health Services Consortium (SAUSHEC) sponsors a gastroenterology fellowship centered in the heart of Military City USA and located at the largest inpatient medical facility in the Department of Defense, SAMMC. The core educational activity of the SAMMC gastroenterology service is the fellowship program focused on a maximum of 15 fellows. Fellows have the opportunity to train at one of the busiest gastroenterology educational programs in the Army and Air Force with cooperative agreements at University of Texas San Antonio Health Sciences Center, Baylor University Medical Center, Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital, and the Methodist Hospital San Antonio. A comprehensive educational experience is built within the GI service’s clinical affinity areas of advanced therapeutic endoscopy, motility, hepatology, inflammatory bowel disease, and general gastroenterology. Our success at training and placing GI physician leaders into each respective service comes from the enthusiasm and passion for research, teaching, and mentorship by our dedicated faculty.
