Dermatology

The objectives of the rotation are to familiarize the individual with common dermatologic diseases (including venereal diseases); to acquire the basic techniques used in diagnostic workup (skin biopsies, KOH preparations, cultures, Tzanck smears, etc.); and to learn the fundamental principles of therapy used in the management of skin diseases. To accomplish these goals, those selected for rotation will participate will participate actively in clinic and teaching conferences. The rotation is designed to maximize learning experience by assigning the student to a dermatology resident during clinic hours. The student will examine patients, ask questions, read and observe the management of skin disease. Assistance from the staff is available at all times. Students are encouraged to prepare a case report for publications and/or a short presentation for a clinical conference.
