Neurology Residency Program Schedules

During the three years of Neurology (following successful completion of an Internal Medicine internship), the trainee will graduate from an initial heavily slanted inpatient exposure to both inpatient neurology (exposure to stroke, acute treatment of stroke, seizures/status epilpeticus, etc) and clinic (treatment of dementia, movements disorders, multiple sclerosis, headaches etc) to other disciplines such as Neurophysiology/Sleep, Pediatric Neurology and Neuropathology.

PGY-2

PGY-2 residents will be exposed to 7 months of inpatient consult service, 1 month of Neuroradiology, 1 month of EEG, 1 month of Psychiatry, 1 month of elective, and 1 month of clinic. During February, the residents will take the mandatory NRITE (neurology in-service exam).

PGY-3

PGY-3 residents will be exposed to 4 months of inpatient consult service, 1 month of clinic, 1 month elective, 1 month Neuropathology, 1 month Pediatric Neurology, 2 months of EMG, 1 month of EEG, 1 month of Pain/Rehab. During February, the residents will take the mandatory NRITE (neurology in-service exam). In addition, both PGY-3 and PGY-4 residents will take the TPSAE (EMG in-service exam) typically held in May.

PGY-4

PGY-4 residents will be exposed to 4 months of inpatient consult service, 1 month of clinic, 1 month elective, 1 month Neuropathology, 2 month Pediatric Neurology, 1-2 months of EMG, 1-2 months of EEG. During February, the residents will take the mandatory NRITE (neurology in-service exam). In addition, both PGY-3 and PGY-4 residents will take the TPSAE (EMG in-service exam) typically held in May. Lastly, PGY-4 residents will have finalized their graduation paper which must be of sufficient quality to be published in a peer-reviewed journal.
