About Us

Nephrology Clinic

Students rotating on the Nephrology Service will receive exposure to the full range of Clinical Nephrology including fluid and electrolyte and acid-base disturbances, glomerulonephritis, acute and chronic renal failure, and hypertension. While on the service students will observe acute and chronic hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. A basic lecture series is offered each month and student attendance is required. Students will perform initial evaluations including history and physical examination on patients referred to the Nephrology Inpatient Service or Outpatient Clinic. Informal teaching on the patient care services will focus on problem oriented diagnosis, adequate performance and evaluation of urinalysis, and the use of other tests to evaluate renal disease. Students completing the rotation will have acquired basic knowledge of processes of renal disease and the approach to the patient with known or suspected renal disease.
