Institute of Surgical Research

The Institute of Surgical Research offers both clinical and laboratory electives for qualified medical students. The supervised clinical experience is for a minimum period of four weeks. Under close faculty supervision the student will participate in clinical care of thermal, chemical, and electric injury patients. Emphasis is placed on fluid and electrolyte management, post injury metabolic and nutritional support, diagnosis and treatment of infection, and wound care techniques. Specific basic science rotations in microbiology, pathology, biochemistry and physiology are available when requested.
