Neurology Residency Program
Welcome to SAUSHEC Neurology Residency Program! SAUSHEC Neurology is an ACGME accredited training program and is the only Neurology Residency Training Program in the USAF. SAUSHEC Neurology is a 4-year residency program, including 1 year of internship. Yearly, Neurology accepts 2-3 AF applicants and may defer 1-2, depending on future needs of those services.
BAMC is the primary training location with 445 inpatient medical and surgical beds and 115 critical care beds. BAMC is a world class health facility and the largest military treatment facility in the DoD. San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC) is also home to both Army and Air Force fellowship training programs and a core training site for USUHS and UTHSCSA medical students.
Over the academic year, Neurology has a robust didactic lecture series organized by pathology. There are typically two conferences daily, 0800-0900 and 1200-1300. Opportunities for clinical research exist. In the past 5 years, our residents have produced several publications in premier neurological journals (Neurology, Muscle & Nerve) and also procured a recent $500k research grant to assess neuroimaging in TBI. In addition, our residents score extremely well on the national in-service exam (consistently ranking in the top 10% of programs nationwide) and board exams (greater than 99% pass rate).
