Military Diversity: BAMC honors Asian American and Pacific Islanders in the ranks

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas  –   Brooke Army Medical Center designated May 27, 2021 to observe the culture and accomplishments of Asian American and Pacific Islander service members. This year’s theme is “Advancing Leaders Through Purpose-Driven Service.” It highlights the advancement of Asian American and Pacific Islander leaders within our military and civilian ranks.

The month of May is a time for the United States to observe AAPI heritage. On April 30, the president signed a proclamation that recognizes the history and achievements of AAPIs across our Nation.

Army Col. Michael Wirt, BAMC commander, noted that AAPIs are a diverse group of many cultures, ethnicities, races and languages, who trace their ancestry back to the Asian continent and the many Pacific islands of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia.
