Dental

Readiness Related:

Optometry Instructions

  • Walk-In Hours of Operation: If MRRS reflects you are due for an eye ‘quick screen’ exam (CAT 4), Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 6 a.m. – 3 p.m., and Wednesday, 6:a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
    • Bring eye glasses, if applicable.
    • PHA vision screen does not count for Optometry exam.

Retirement/Specialty Physical Exam Instructions

Retirement/separation physicals are scheduled up to 6 months prior to your retirement date. Specialty physicals, such as, Aviation/Dive, Overseas Screenings, Suitability Screenings and PARFQs, can be completed by the members’ in advance, by calling 210-808-2309/2422.

Any physical can count toward a PHA as long as you are in your window for a PHA and the questionnaire is completed.

The Medical Exams Process has two parts:

  • Part I:
    • No appointment is necessary for this phase.
      • Walk-in Hours: Monday-Friday 6 a.m. – 2 p.m., and every 1st/3rd/5th Wednesday 6 a.m. – 11 a.m.
    • Complete questionnaire.
    • Healthcare Nurse or Hospital Corpsman complete the rest of Part I and provide further guidance on how to complete Part II.
    • All readiness items must be complete in MRRS (including dental) prior to Part II.
  • Part II:
    • An appointment to see a physician or IDC for the physical/screening will be made when Part I is complete.
    • Ensure all laboratory blood work ups are complete. Active Duty Service Members can walk-in at ANY BAMC lab (BAMC Phlebotomy Lab, 1st Floor, CPT Jennifer M. Moreno Primary Care Clinic Lab, or the SPC Taylor J. Burk Clinic Lab on Camp Bullis), during normal duty hours, and request PHA lab work (standing order in effect). HIV is also a walk-in service at ANY BAMC lab.
    • Ensure immunizations are up-to-date.
    • Ensure vision is up-to-date (PHA vision screen does not count for Optometry exam).
    • PHA, physical/screening is COMPLETE once you have completed all required work ups and the provider has updated MRRS.
