The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. BAMC nurse helps rescue child after car crashed into house

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas  –   A Brooke Army Medical Center nurse jumped into action Oct. 7, rescuing a toddler after a car careened into the child’s home.

 Sharon Acker, a trauma nurse in the emergency department at BAMC, was on her way home from work a little after 11 p.m. She was just a few blocks from home when she happened upon the scene.

“The car had crashed into my neighbor’s house and it appeared as though it had just happened,” she said. “There was nobody outside, so I got out to check to see if there was anyone in the car.”
